A couple of great Kickstarter projects

There’s so much good stuff on Kickstarter right now! I thought I’d share a couple of the projects I’ve backed recently that you guys might want to check out and back as well.

Gary Hustwit of Helvetica and Objectified fame is funding his new documentary Urbanized through Kickstarter. It’s about the design of cities and it looks at “the issues and strategies behind urban design, featuring some of the world’s foremost architects, planners, policymakers, builders, and thinkers”.

Another documentary I’m really looking forward to is Minecraft: The Story of Mojang by 2 Player Productions. The story about how Notch made Minecraft, a video game with extremely crude graphics and no story line at all, into a million dollar business should interest fans and the general public alike. Here’s a 20-minute proof of concept which looks great.

If you’re interested in the design process and storytelling you definitely want to read Frank Chimero’s The Shape of Design. Here’s a talk Frank gave at the Build Conference about the subject:
