Did you know that you can convert any song in your iTunes library to a custom ringtone or alarm tone for free on your Mac? It takes a few steps but it’s not hard at all. Here’s how:
- Find the song you want to convert and press command + I or choose Get Info in the File menu. Go to Options.
- A ringtone can only be 30 seconds long as far as I know. So choose which 30 seconds you want. I chose the first 30 seconds below but it can be any 30 second clip. Click OK.

- Right click the song and select Create AAC Version. You will now get a 30 second copy of the song in your iTunes library.

- Right click your new 30 second song and choose Show in Finder.

- Change the extension of your new file from .m4a to .m4r.

- Go back to iTunes and delete the 30 second song from your library. Be sure to choose Keep File when asked.
- Go to Finder and double click your .m4r file. It will now be imported into iTunes as a ringtone.
- Sync your iPhone. You can now use your song as a custom ringtone or pick it as your alarm tone when you set your alarm.
