Add vodka to your simple syrup for longer shelf life

I like to keep a bottle of simple syrup in the fridge so I always have some ready when I’m making cocktails. It’s extremely easy to make simple syrup, just mix equal parts sugar and water. But it’s not much use if you pull the bottle out of the fridge and there’s mold in your homemade simple syrup.

Today I learned a trick that should help avoid that: Add a tablespoon of vodka to your simple syrup and it will keep for three months instead of just one!
