Here’s What You’ll Be Dancing to this Summer

UK funky is ready to fill the gap between the now irrelevant UK garage, grime and house. It’s obviously inspired by US house, afrobeat and soca but it has some of the rawness of bassline and grime with rewinds, ragga MCs and, well, attitude.

Nobody seems to be able to define exactly which characteristics make funky what it is but it seems to have grown from UK garage, lost some of its cheesiness and somehow become interesting again. UK funky is still mostly a London phenomenon but I predict a big future for the genre.
